Import Itunes Library From Iphone To Mac

Feb 13, 2020  If you're using macOS Mojave or earlier or a Windows PC, use iTunes to sync content to your devices. Before you use iTunes to sync content to your iOS or iPadOS device, consider using iCloud, Apple Music, or similar services to keep content from your Mac or PC in the cloud.

Hi, 20bina,

It sounds like you're trying to sync your iPhone with an old Mac computer so you can get imported content from iTunes to your phone, but the sync option is greyed out. I'm happy to help!

If you subscribe to Apple Music: Join Apple Music on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC - Apple Support or iTunes Match: Subscribe to iTunes Match - Apple Support, you're not able to manually sync your iPhone with your computer. Instead, you would sign into the same Apple ID and enable Sync Library (or iCloud Music Library for older macOS and iOS versions) on all devices you wanted access to your library: Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music - Apple Support.

Once set up, Apple Music/iTunes Match scans your library, sees what is already available in the iTunes/Apple Music catalogues and makes those available on all your devices. For music you imported to iTunes that does not exist in the iTunes Store or Apple Music catalogues, the services uploads your copies to the cloud so you can have those as well.

If you do not use Apple Music or iTunes Match, you can only sync your iPhone with one iTunes library at a time. If you've got content on your iPhone now that you have synced from a different computer, syncing with this old Mac will remove the perviously synced data and replace it with only the data being synced from this computer: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support.

Regardless of whether you've previously synced with another computer or no, if you're not using Apple Music or iTunes Match the sync option on your Mac should be available. If it's not, try the following steps. Test between each, stopping when it's resolved:

  1. Quit iTunes: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support and unplug your iPhone. Then restart your Mac: How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support.
  2. Check for, and install, any available updates for macOS: How to update the software on your Mac - Apple Support. This should install updates for iTunes as well.
  3. See if the issue happens in a new, test user account: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support.

Cheers!
